STREETDANCE/HIP-HOP

Streetdance or Hip-hop is perhaps the most popular style of dancing today. Merging styles from funk, lock 'n pop, krump, house and even breakdance, this class is usually done to rap, hip-hop, or R&B music. The class starts with a warm-up and stretching section but with an emphasis on the "groove" typical of this dance style. This is followed by a choreography section where the students learn a short dance sequence.

Attire: Shirt, jogging pants/shorts/leggings, rubber shoes

Teachers: Mia Cabalfin/Alfred Mercado/Reagan Cornelio

JAZZ

Jazz dance merges some basic ballet techniques with the freer movements of hip-hop, latin, rock 'n roll, etc. This type of dancing, commonly used in Broadway shows and musicals, is very versatile. Be it accompanied by slow music (adagio) or fast beats (techno), Jazz dance offers the student variety of steps and different movement techniques along with increased strength, flexibility, and coordination.

The class involves a warm-up and stretching period, followed by centering exercises (plies, tendus, rond-de-jambs) where the students are acquainted with some basic technique exercises. This is followed by "corners" or across-the-floor exercises involving kicks, jumps, leaps, walks, and turns. Finally, the class is taught a short dance sequence where the student applies the techniques he/she has learned. This is also where the students are encouraged to express themselves and have fun through the dance.

Attire: Tight fitting top, jazz pants/leggings, jazz/ballet shoes (or barefoot or socks)

Teachers: Avel Bautista/Vinia Pamplona/Melvin Apostol

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary Dance is a fusion of modern ballet with a variety of free-flowing movements and techniques (such as contract & release, floor work, improvisation, etc.) to create an expressive form of dance that can be done to any type of music. Contemporary Dance is characterized by relaxed, free, almost pedestrian movements that can easily be learned even by those without previous dance training. As the students progress, they can learn rolls, falls and jumps that can integrated into their dance sequences to create a new, different and exciting form of dance.

Attire: Tight fitting top, jazz pants/leggings, socks/barefoot

Teachers: Rhosam Prudenciado Jr./Alfred Mercado/Joseph Guzman
